Jane Carol Marshall was the youngest in her family consisting of four boys and three girls. The children were as follows Joseph (Joe) her half brother, Jack, Lois her sister, Phillip (Barney), Helen, and Robert (Bob). Jane was born September 22^nd, 1935 to her parents Margret (Mimi) and Joseph Marshall. When she was born she lived in a little house in Butte, Montana.

As her family tried to survive through the depression they lived in a tent for a summer while Jane was 3. The tent was in the woods 30 miles outside of Butte. Jane remembered her older brothers Jack and Barney chasing her around with dead mice. To this day she is afraid of mice. She also remembers when she was living out in those tents she had a little silver spoon in which one day she discovered wasn’t there anymore. Her mother told her that the packrats got it. After the summer they moved into a house, they were renting in Butte. When they got there a mice had gotten into one of the luggage pieces and her and her mom stood on top of a chest of drawers until someone came and got rid of it.

One of her memories of her sister Lois was; in butte it would get incredibly cold so she would have to wear long stockings. Every night Lois would have to clean them for Jane because Jane was too young. The whole time while Lois cleaned, Lois would complain.

She remembers well the worries and heartache of World War II. Her eldest brother Joe was in the army. Jane was always closest to Joe. Every time Joe would write home he would say give a kiss to Janie for me. Joe was the only one who called her Janie, to everyone else, it was just Jane. Three of her four brothers served during that time. She often shares the memory of when the telegraph came to tell of the injury to her favorite brother Joe. He was later awarded the Purple Heart.

Something’s that she always remembered about her mom was that she taught her how to pray. Her mother Mimi also talked to her about having faith and that she can do anything she can set her mind to. Her mother was also an amazing baker. Every birthday of Jane’s her mom would make her a chocolate cake and it would have sea foam icing. Her mom also made the most delicious homemade noodles that were just real thin. Her mom also made a chocolate cake with a fudge frosting. Her mother was a practicing Christian Scientist and also of Unity.

Jane’s relationship with her dad was different then that with her mom. Her mom tended to be colder, and never told Jane that she loved her. Jane’s Dad, Joseph, was the opposite whenever he had a chance he told Jane that he loved her. Her Dad treated her very well. She remembers everyday her dad would pick her up from school and ask if she needed any shoes and if she did he would give her money and her mom and she would go shopping. Jane’s father was a really skinny man. Her dad was also a very heavy smoker and she can remember going to her grandma’s house and sitting out in the car with her dad while he had a smoke and she would get so sick to her stomach from the smell.

Jane’s mom and dad would always be fighting they never got along, and her mom was always kicking her dad out of the house. Growing up Janie would always go to church by herself. Her parents would just drop her off and she would go to the Grace Methodist Church in Butte.

Jane’s most embarrassing moment was when a sophomore in high school she was caring a ton of books and she tripped going down the stairs. Jane fell all the way down the stairs and her books went everywhere, not a single person helped her.

Throughout her young life her family lived in six different houses. It wasn’t until after her father died in 1960 that one of her brothers helped her mom put a down payment on a house.

Jane was well liked and a person of integrity as she grew up. This would prepare her to become a loving wife and devoted mother.

The Details:

Nicole was born to Don and Heather on October 1986 in Kent, Washington. She had an older sister Megan. They only lived in the Seattle area in Kent for a few years and then they moved to a house in Coeur d' Alene Idaho. She was raised in Coeur d' Alene where 3 more younger brothers and one little sister joined Megan and Nicole in later years.

Nicole met her husband Nathan in Coeur d' Alene in the home ward in Sun Beams. They didn't start dating until her Sophomore year where she went on her first date with Nathan. They started dating more exclusively her Junior year and his Senior year. But the romance was put on hold a few years later when Nathan went on his mission for two years.

Nicole then attended to BYU- Idaho going into elementary education. Which she had decided to be a teacher her senior year of High School. She learned a lot while going to college and gained some great girlfriends. She dated and enjoyed life. Before she knew it Nathan was home and in not time at all she knew things were going to workout with him. Two months after Nathan got home they were engaged and 7 months later they were sealed for eternity in the Spokane Temple on December 29, 2007. She graduated from BYU- Idaho with her teaching degree a few months later. Her and Nathan both felt it was time for them to start their family. April 17, 2009 Annie Nicole Cope was born. Now Nicole is a stay at home mom, while Nathan works and goes to school.

Nicole is such a cute mom. She spoils Annie rotten and enjoys every minute of it. I get to see Nicole and Annie frequently throughout the week as we go on walks or the occasional jog. She has been such a good friend to me and appreciate her very much. She is a great example!

The Details:

Grandma Judy was born to my Great Grandparents Sam and Verna Simmons. Her younger brother Ned is only 18 months younger then her. She has said that they did not always get along because when she was wanting to play doll house, Ned was wanting to make it into a War Zone. She was born in an old farm house in Malolah Oregon. She went to Malolah Highschool her first year and then moved to Corvalis, Oregon. There she met Gary Guptill. She was only 14 and he 18. She actually met Gary's mother first. Judy's younger brother and Gary's younger brother would sail down the river in boats. And since Judy's mother worked it was her job to get younger brother. Hazel (Gary's mom) liked Judy and thought she would do some good for her 18 year old son who would rather work then go to school. They went on their first date to the movies. Gary was the first boy she had ever dated. On July 11th just 3 days after her 17th birthday she married Gary at a Justice of Peace. She got pregnant on her honeymoon. And found herself ver alone since her husband was over seas working in the military. At first she did not even know she was pregnant. But she did keep on getting sick. So her mom took her to the Doctor and she was about 3 months along. Judy was scared out of her mind. You werent alowed to be married and attend school let alone be pregnant. But they hid the pregnancy and marriage as long as she could until she was showing to much. The day she went into labor she had no idea she suddenly felt so energized she made cookies went on a long walk then suddenly it happened at 8 pm she went into labor. It was around the same time Ned her 16 year old brother got his drivers liscense. So Ned drove her and her mother to the hospital. She says it was one of the wildest rides she had ever been on. Her son was born Jeffery Collins Guptill. Gary didnt come home until Jeff was about six weeks old. A few year later she had her son Greg. When Greg was born she had evrything set up perfect. They were liing in a nice little house and she had the Nursery all set up. Gary's mother Hazel Marie came and took care of Jeff. Apparently while Judy was in the hospital Jeff misbehaved very badley. Hazel was determined to get her 3 year old son off the bottle. Jeff did NOT like this idea. Pretty soon he took it out on her by knocking her glasses into the toilet. Needless to say Grandma Guptill gladley gave Jeff back to Judy when she came home.

Soon she found herself home with two children, but as time went on she got a few offers for work. At one point as working as the PTA mother the principal came up to her. He asked is if she would help him set up the first program from Handicaped children in Oregon. So she did. She and two other male teachers ran a classroom of 30 Handicaped children and started the first ever Special Education Program in Oregon. The 30 kids racged from ages 1st grade to 16. After the class was established she decided to work in the Library. She got her certificate in Library Science by taking classes at night. Her Gary and the children moved to Domascus and into a 5 acre lot. She worked as a librarian there as well. They offered her as a job to work as librarian over 2 schools. She decided that was just too much. So instead she raised a U- PICK marian berry farm on her 5 acres and got money from that. During that time Gary decided that he was going to leave the family. Judy began her struggle as a single mom. She worked her way through everything as a secretary at a couple different hospitals. She eventually got her Nursing degree doing full time school and work. The hospital she worked for payed for her schooling! Today she is retired and is enjoying life! She is very active in her home ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She has been through so much in her life, and has always been an example of strength to me. She knows the impotance of education almost better then anyone I know. She is a very hard worker. At the moment she is living in a cute little house in Vancouver that she has a beautiful garden on. She loves her Grandchildren. She is a very caring person is willing to help! She has been an amzing help to her ward! I love her so much. I know she has testimoney. SHe says the thing that has always kept her coming back to the chuch is her testimony of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. She is such a wonderful example to me!
